DLC Coating
We now offer a service to measure, micro polish and coat both the Cam journals and Rocker arms for the 2 valve Porsche air cooled engine.
This coating, along with modified oiling tubes, decreases the heat generated by the sliding friction and with the increase in oil supply, removes the heat from these two high wearing surfaces.
Increases in spring pressures valve lift all contribute to the friction generated within these two parts.

Performance Developments Signature Engine Machining
Since the early 90’s, Performance Developments has been in the business of building a host of different engines for racing, street and other high-performance uses.
With over 30 years in the industry and being trained by some of the best, PD has set a standard and a level of excellence, typically not seen in the automotive world. Our philosophy of intelligent engineering, unparalleled workmanship and methodical attention-to-detail, yields premium results for the high-end motorsports industry and carries over to every project.
It is this level of excellence that we are now offering in our Signature Machining Services.
We provide full machine shop services for both air-cooled and water-cooled Porsche engines including:
-Block and Case Work
-Crankshafts
-Connecting Rods,
– Pistons
-Cylinder heads
-Valve Train and others.
In addition, we utilize many of our own modifications on our customer’s engines.
The Performance Developments Difference:
Our customers come from a wide range of places and professional backgrounds and bring a cornucopia of needs for their engine project. As such, one thing our customers have in common is their knowledge that Performance Developments provides superior products to those who truly desire “top-performance.” Our niche is defined by superior products and turnaround time, when compared to “production level” shops. This allows our customers to wield superior products for a performance edge, while reducing down-time in the shop.
Custom Design Services
Throughout PD’s myriad years of experience building both custom and prototype engines, a common customer question has been simple, yet profound, namely: “What parts should I use when building an engine?” And more specifically, “Which Camshafts and Pistons should I use?” Here at PD, Camshafts and Pistons have by far been the most popular items. In terms of the current market for these particular items, we believe there is a viable performance gap in the field that our product will overwhelmingly fill with superior performance and a competitive price point.
PD is now offering a service to design and supply engine internals that will fit within the required engine specification of your engine, but with modern technology applied. Component weight and other important parameters (not considered in historical designs still offered today,) are now part of what can be included in your engine. Both the air-cooled and water-cooled engines are included.
This design service allows the engine builder to have the very latest technology not typically offered by the current part manufacturers. Included is the latest Crankshaft, Connecting Rod, Piston, Camshaft and valve train parts, along with the very latest in coatings and weight reduction which gains back some of the performance lost in your engine.
An example of this could be the use of longer connecting rods together with a piston boasting a shorter compression height, shorter ring stack and narrower ring faces along with the compression ratio desired, all fitting an existing deck height.
Camshafts are another design offering. The old-school designs are replaced with more modern designs along with friction reduction coatings. These coatings help sustain the longevity of the lobes, rocker pad faces, finger followers and round cam followers.
